Castlemain Mill Holiday Cottages

Welcome to Castlemain Mill Holiday Cottages

RECENT REVIEW - This is why Castlemain Mill is so special.
"Fantastic hosts in an outstanding location and accommodation. The warm welcome and homely treats added to our stay, which excelled in delivering what we had all hoped for and more. An oasis of tranquility not to be missed and most highly recommended. Being able to bring our young dog with us, as a first for us all, was an added bonus and something we will definitely repeat. If you love walking or cycling this is the place to be. We were so relaxed having visited this lovely place and can't recommend highly enough."

Located in the Forest of Dean and the quiet country village of Parkend, Gloucestershire, Castlemain Mill Holiday Cottages are converted barns on the edge of the forest offering fully equipped self catering accommodation all year round. The cottages have been sympathetically renovated to a high standard by the owners who live in Castlemain Mill on the same site and are ideal for couples wanting a relaxing break in the Forest of Dean. Castlerag and Horse Gin are converted from workshops/stables and are among the earliest buildings in Parkend. They are named after old coal mines in the immediate vicinity as the main house was previously the offices of the Parkend Deep Navigation Collieries Ltd.

Surrounded by the beautiful Forest of Dean, Parkend is home to the RSPB Nagshead Reserve and has a great village shop/Post Office with café, two pubs offering excellent food, a cycle hire shop with café and is the last station for the Dean Forest Steam Railway. It is a peaceful village location where sheep wander freely, deer and wild boar can often be seen and buzzards fly overhead.

Wild boar and humbugThere is an abundance of tracks and trails for walking and cycling and with dogs welcome everywhere, share the forest with your canine friends. Secure cycle storage is provided for each cottage  so bring your bike to explore the many cycle trails around and for the more adventurous why not try the Verderer's or Freeminer's trail - only 15 minutes warm up ride away.

It is a short drive to Symnonds Yat where there are oustanding views of the Wye Valley and if you are lucky a sighting of Peregrine Falcons, for those who want to take to the water there are many places to launch a canoe and there are several hire facilites in the area.

The nearest towns are Lydney, Coleford, Cinderford, Ross-on-Wye, Chepstow and Monmouth and the larger towns and cities of Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham and Gloucester are all easily reached for a day out.

The cottages and grounds of Castlemain Mill are strictly no smoking and this includes vaping (the use of e-cigarettes).
